‘I’ll repeat…I’m not a rapper, MC or lyricist…hiphop or any other genre for that matter doesn’t mean shit to me.’
Ghostpoet, born Obaro Ejimiwe, is turning 31 today. He is a Mercury Music Prize Nominee (with his first album Peanut Butter Blues & Melancholy Jam in 2011) from Coventry, UK, raised somewhere between London, Coventry, Nigeria and Dominica. His second album Some Say I So I Say Light was released in May 2013 and was co-produced with Richard Formby (Wild Beasts, Darkstar). He was also included in the album Africa Express Presents: Maison Des Jeunes, which was recorded in Bamako, Mali over 7 days in October, when Ghostpoet joined by the percussive beats of talking drum band Doucoura on the Damon Albarn and Two Inch Punch produced track ‘Season Change’.
They say it is in your 30’s when you get to really know yourself. If that’s the case, I am excited by what this decade has in store from Ghostpoet!
